Foreign Citizens' Adaptation Hub in Mirna and Lenny Districts
In a significant move to foster interethnic harmony and promote the legal protection of foreign citizens, the Centre for Social and Cultural Adaptation of Foreign Citizens has embarked on an outreach programme in the Mirny and Leninsky districts of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). This pilot project, funded by the Federal Agency for Nationality Affairs of Russia, aims to integrate migrant workers and their families into Russian society.
The project includes various initiatives such as free Russian language classes for adults, often held in conjunction with ethnic community classes for children. These classes are designed to help foreigners meet the requirements for permanent residency or citizenship, which now mandate Russian language proficiency exams.
The Centre's head, David Arkan, and Semen Kirillin, head of the Information and Legal Department, spoke about the centre's activities at the meetings held in both districts. The meetings were attended by key figures including Acting Head of the Mirny district, Dmitry Shirinsky, representatives of the Mirny branch of the Assembly of Peoples of Yakutia, Oksana Palchikova, Head of the Migration Department of the MVD of Russia in Mirny district, and Deputy General Director of ALROSA, Alexei Dyachkovsky.
Leaders of national cultural communities in the district were also present at the meetings, demonstrating the district administration's readiness to support initiatives aimed at creating a comfortable environment for all residents, regardless of their nationality.
In Leninsky district, the Adaptation Center specialists met with representatives of municipal formations, state institutions, businesses, and national associations. The residents of Mirny consider the visit of the Adaptation Center specialists as an important step in strengthening interethnic harmony.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to balance preserving the migrants’ native cultural identity while facilitating their social integration into Russian society. The project is expected to continue its outreach work in the coming weeks, contributing to a more inclusive and harmonious community in the Mirny and Leninsky districts of Yakutia.
