Fire Department Training for Aspiring Firefighters in Düren City: Applicants have until 30th September to join the new level training program, moving directly from school benches to fire service duty.
New Firefighter Training Program Launches in Düren
The city of Düren is introducing a new training program for aspiring firefighters, providing a future-proof and meaningful perspective for young people who want to take on responsibility directly after school. This exciting opportunity is now open for applications, with the deadline set for September 30, 2025.
The training program is divided into two phases, each approximately 18 months long. During the training, young talents receive remuneration according to TVöD, with monthly salaries ranging from around 1,218 to 1,268 euros in Tier 1 and around 1,500 euros per month in Tier 2.
Tier 1 of the training program involves vocational training in areas such as wood, metal, electrical engineering, sanitation/heating/air conditioning, German, mathematics, politics, sports, internships, and first aid courses. Successful completion of Tier 1 leads to a transition to Tier 2, where applicants must already possess a class B driver's license.
Tier 2 involves a transition to a probationary civil service position, with comprehensive firefighting training, emergency medical technician qualification, deployment training, machine operator and radio courses, and preparation for the career exam. There is currently a trainee special allowance of around 525 euros in Tier 2 (temporary until the end of 2026).
Applicants for the firefighter training program must have a clean criminal record and a minimum of an intermediate school leaving certificate (lower secondary school). Applications can only be submitted via the career portal of the city of Düren: karriere.dueren.de.
The pilot project begins on October 1, 2026, and offers the opportunity to pursue a firefighting career without prior vocational training. The Fire Department Düren also offers training for aspiring senior firefighters and emergency medical technicians.
