Federal 'Reading Programs' Project Launches to Spark Interest in Russian Literature

A federal project called 'Reading Programs' has been launched to spark young people's interest in Russian literature and reading. The project involves establishing literary clubs in schools and colleges, with notable cultural figures like Eugene Knyazev, Sergei Bezrukov, and Yevgeny Mironov lending their support. Elena Yampolskaya, who noted that revitalizing reading programs is an investment in the future cultural code of the next generation, was among the prominent figures who participated in a panel discussion on October 2, 2023.

The project aims to create spaces for book discussions, poetry evenings, and literary quizzes. As of now, 1163 literary clubs are operational across Russia. These clubs can win rewards and meet prominent cultural figures based on a monthly ranking of the top 30 clubs. One such successful club is the literature club of School No. 45 in the village of Severnaya, Seversky District, named after Hero of the Soviet Union P.M. Gavrilov. This club ranked among the top most active literature clubs in September.

The 'Reading Programs' project is off to a strong start, with numerous literary clubs already established and actively engaging young people in Russian literature. The project's success is evident in the achievements of clubs like the one at School No. 45, demonstrating the potential for revitalizing reading programs to have a lasting impact on the cultural landscape of the next generation.
