Evening of Science Brimming with Engaging Deals
Upcoming Event: Leipzig's Ninth Long Night of Sciences
Leipzig, Germany, is preparing to open its doors to the public for an evening of science exploration on June 20, 2025. The ninth installment of the Long Night of Sciences will take place from 4 pm to 11 pm, showcasing the city's extensive academic and research landscape at over 140 institutions across 55 locations.
Mayor Burkhard Jung warmly invites all Leipzig residents to embark on a discovery tour, as the event offers intriguing insights into topics such as climate change, energy transition, and artificial intelligence.
With free admission and no registration required, participants can access usually restricted research spaces. The evening will cater to both young and old, with a multitude of interactive offerings for children and youth scheduled to begin at 4 pm.
This year will also mark the presentation of the Leipzig Science Award, a new addition to the event.
One of the highlights for young artists aged 3 to 14 years is the "Leipzig MALT" competition, where creative pieces addressing the future of our planet can be submitted until May 31. These works will be displayed and awarded on the University's Augustusplatz campus during the Long Night of Sciences.
The evening promises a host of other attractions, as visitors are encouraged to explore various locations in Leipzig. The New Town Hall, the Smart City Lab (Kupfergasse), and other participating venues will offer engaging activities and facts about science and research.
A detailed program of the Long Night of Sciences can be found on www.wissen-in-leipzig.de. The "My Night" option allows visitors to plan their own itinerary in advance.

A special app named "LNdW Leipzig," developed by HTWK Leipzig, aims to simplify event discovery and planning. Additionally, a city map featuring all participating science locations can be downloaded from the website and obtained at several locations within Leipzig.
For anyone interested in moving between locations, Nextbike offers free usage, while a special bus line operated by LVB will run between Augustusplatz and the Science Park in Permoserstraße during the event's hours.
The Long Night of Sciences is a collaborative effort between Leipzig's universities and research institutions, the city of Leipzig, and financially supported organizations such as Leipziger Gruppe, Sparkasse Leipzig, Leipzig Science Network, and the Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer.
The event is part of a national initiative to bridge the gap between scientists and the general public, fostering genuine engagement and interest in scientific research.
Previous editions have featured various hands-on lab experiences, science demonstrations, panel discussions, and networking opportunities with researchers. This year is expected to follow suit, with new discoveries and encounters for participants of all ages.
