Electric car owners of Porsche and Audi models now have access to Tesla's Supercharger network.
Porsche Customers Gain Access to Tesla's Supercharger Network
Porsche has announced that its electric vehicle (EV) customers will now have access to Tesla's Supercharger network, starting from September 9. This move follows Honda and Acura's recent rollout of access to Tesla's network.
Timo Resch, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America, stated that the company is working to make Porsche ownership more convenient for customers. Older Taycan customers can purchase a Porsche NACS DC adapter for $185 through Porsche's online shop or local Porsche Centers. This adapter enables CCS-equipped Taycan and Macan Electric models to charge at stations with NACS/J3400 plugs, including Tesla Superchargers.
Initially, Porsche customers will utilize the Tesla app to enable charging. Owners of 2025 Taycans and current Macan Electric models will be eligible for a complimentary adapter through the My Porsche app. Starting with model year 2026, all Taycan and Macan Electric models will include the Porsche NACS DC adapter for free.
The expansion of Tesla's Supercharger network to Porsche and Audi owners further strengthens Tesla's Supercharger dominance. Tesla's Supercharger network now has over 23,500 charging stalls in North America, accessible to Porsche and Audi EV owners.
This rush to adopt the NACS port by automakers is increasing the interoperability of charging networks for electric vehicles. Audi and Porsche, both Volkswagen brands, are set to adopt Tesla's NACS charging port across their lineup, following the parent company's 2023 decision. More automakers, including Honda, Acura, are officially onboard with adopting the NACS port for their electric vehicles.
Charging through the My Porsche app and plug-and-charge is expected to follow in the coming months. This transition will eventually eliminate the need for adapters altogether for Audi and Porsche models. The expansion of charging networks and the adoption of common charging standards are significant steps towards making electric vehicle ownership more accessible and convenient for customers.
