Educator Katharina Müller Retires After Leading Anklam's Evangelical School Since 2005

Katharina Müller, a long-standing educator in Anklam, has retired after leading the evangelical school since its inception in 2005. Her final day was September 30, 2025.

Müller's journey in education began after graduating in 1985. She taught German and music at various schools in Anklam. Post-reunification, she headed the cultural department in the city administration, overseeing local schools.

In 2003, she proposed founding an ecumenical school, but the idea didn't materialise. However, a chance meeting with Prof. Eckart Schwerin in 2005 led to the establishment of the first free school in Anklam. Müller co-founded the school with Schwerin, who led an unidentified organisation at the time. The school started with eight students and four teachers in the Haus der Bildung, moving to the 'Peeneburg' in 2009.

Under Müller's leadership, the school grew significantly. Today, it accommodates 135 children with 22 staff members, including eight teachers. She considered leaving due to changes in the education system but remained committed to her role until her retirement.

Katharina Müller's dedication to education has shaped Anklam's evangelical school. From its humble beginnings, the school now thrives with over 130 students. Her retirement marks the end of an era, leaving a lasting legacy in the city's educational landscape.
