In the heart of Düsseldorf, the Multicultural Forum has been making a significant impact, empowering numerous participants through work and training opportunities, and offering valuable resources to help open up professional prospects in the city.

The Multicultural Forum's efforts were recently recognised as the City of Düsseldorf's Equality Prize was awarded to them on March 5th at the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus. This prestigious honour came as a testament to the organisation's dedication to promoting cultural diversity, inclusivity, and empowerment within the community.

The event, themed around "Intersectional Feminism," attracted over 500 participants and featured more than 100 events in March, reflecting Düsseldorf's commitment to a diverse and gender-equitable society. The matinee during the event focused on this theme, with a thought-provoking discussion led by Ninia LaGrande, and the "60 seconds" program where Düsseldorf associations and institutions presented their contributions on the topic.

Intersectional Feminism, coined by American law professor Kimberlé Crenshaw in 1989, highlights how different forms of inequality often overlap and reinforce each other. This concept was central to the event, aiming to shed light on the complexities of discrimination experienced due to factors such as gender, social class, sexuality, or migration history, and the challenges faced by those who experience multiple forms of these inequalities.

The Multicultural Forum's goal is to empower women to lead self-determined lives, and they achieve this through various initiatives. One of their key focus areas is education and training, providing educational resources and programs to enhance the skills and employability of the women they support. They also offer community support, creating a network of resources for women to navigate cultural and social challenges.

In addition, the Multicultural Forum advocates for policies that address specific challenges faced by migrant women, and they organise cultural events and workshops to promote understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures. Many of the women supported by the Multicultural Forum are trained and supported for voluntary work, contributing positively to the community.

The €10,000 prize money awarded to the Multicultural Forum will be used for empowerment and mindfulness programs for women and their children, furthering their mission to promote inclusivity and empowerment within the community. The celebration concluded with a Black Magic performance by artist Zoe, adding a powerful note to the event.
