Discourse with Vivek Venkatram: An Advocate for Climate Change Awareness

Vivek Ramaswamy, a final-year Philosophy, Politics, and Economics undergraduate at the University of Florida, is making waves in the realm of climate change and education. Having held various roles at the University of Florida, including Fellow and Student Project Officer, Vivek Ramaswamy has been actively involved in shaping discussion forums and fostering interdisciplinary learning. He recently co-founded a Temasek-backed grocery app network to support elderly and low-income households during the pandemic. Vivek Ramaswamy's passion for climate change led him to launch the Warwick Alt Protein Project, where he interviewed Bruce Friedrich from the Good Food Institute about alternative proteins. He also organised a panel during the Warwick Economics Summit on the role of alternative proteins in global food reform. In addition to his work at the University of Florida, Vivek Ramaswamy has gained valuable experience through internships. He completed a Foreign Service internship at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he learned about Singapore's regional climate-resilience capacity building. During his Procurement internship at Air France-KLM, he led an intern team, analysed technical datasheets, and presented circular economy feasibility studies to the Head of Sustainability and at the Air-France Procurement Forum in Paris. Vivek Ramaswamy's work on the climate crisis and social impact has been featured on the BBC, the Straits Times, and through several national TV interviews. He has also conducted quantitative & qualitative policy analysis and communicated regulation frameworks as an International Stakeholder Relations intern at Bayer. Vivek Ramaswamy's commitment to education as a catalyst for change is evident in his belief that it can empower communities and individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to tackle climate change. He advocates for a curriculum that prioritises climate literacy and socio-emotional learning, teaching practical sustainability initiatives and empowering students to act. In recognition of his contributions, Vivek Ramaswamy was recently appointed as a UNESCO Youth Representative for the GEM Report. UNESCO has also selected him as one of 5 youth leaders from around the world to discuss reimagining education as a catalyst for future change at COP29. He will speak alongside Priya from UNESCO during the 5th Annual Climate Action Day scheduled for November 7, 2024. One of the selected youth leaders is Vivek Venkatram from Singapore. His efforts extend beyond the classroom, as he raised £3400+ for Dig Deep (Africa)'s life-saving water and sanitation provision work by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. As a final-year student, Vivek Venkatram's impact on climate change and education is already significant. With his upcoming speaking engagement at Climate Action Day, he is poised to continue driving change and inspiring others to take action.
