Disconnecting from Digital Devices for Mental Well-being Improvement
The City Library is hosting a Digital Detox workshop aimed at helping participants reduce their screen time without giving up the benefits of digital media. This event, scheduled for September 4th, from 4 PM to 5 PM, is open to adults and youth aged 14 and above.
The workshop will take place in the Library in the Town Hall Passage, a calming and distraction-free venue that supports reflection and social connection. Participants will learn how to turn off autopilot and handle media more consciously.
Participation is free, but prior registration via the City Library's website is requested. For those who have questions, there is a contact form on the website or via Instagram (@stabigram).
During the workshop, participants will be introduced to the concept of digital detox and provided with practical strategies for implementing it. The workshop will analyze and discuss digital media usage and its reasons, and will offer tips and tricks for conscious media usage.
The workshop will include tech-free zones where participants commit to no device use, encouraging face-to-face interactions and mindfulness. Structured digital access will be provided, such as specific times for checking devices, gradually reducing screen time. Alternative activities, such as meditation, art therapy, journaling, or skill-building exercises, will occupy time previously spent on digital devices.
Participants will also learn new healthy routines that replace habitual digital usage, like morning meditation or evening journaling instead of social media scrolling. The workshop will provide a supportive environment for participants to reduce screen time and develop sustainable habits for conscious media use.
In addition to the workshop, refreshments and breaks will be planned where participants can interact without screens, fostering community support. For those interested in further learning, mindfulness and meditation apps will be suggested to supplement learning and practice during and after the workshop.
Engaging a mental health professional or digital wellness coach to lead or consult for the workshop will ensure expert guidance and credibility. This comprehensive approach helps participants develop sustainable habits for conscious media use while providing structure and support throughout the detox process.
