DHS Denies Pritzker's Claims on Immigration Enforcement; U.S. Launches Battery Fire Safety Campaign, Illinois Battles Distracted Driving

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has refuted Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker's claims regarding federal immigration enforcement and the treatment of migrant children. Meanwhile, a significant safety campaign has been launched to tackle the growing issue of lithium-ion battery fires. Distracted driving crashes have also been on the rise in Illinois.

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin has denied that migrant children were zip-tied, contrary to Governor Pritzker's assertions. The department went further, accusing the governor of spreading 'a smorgasbord of lies' about federal immigration enforcement efforts. This follows a recent operation, Operation Midway Blitz, where over 1,000 criminal illegal aliens were arrested, with no U.S. citizens taken into custody except for those obstructing or assaulting law enforcement.

In a separate development, a major safety campaign has been launched to address the increasing number of lithium-ion battery fires in the U.S. From 2017 to 2022, over 25,000 such fires were reported. The 'Charge into Fire Safety' campaign, led by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), involves various fire service organizations and safety experts. It aims to emphasize the importance of safe manufacturing, charging, and recycling of lithium-ion batteries.

Illinois, however, is facing another safety concern. A study by Beck & Beck Missouri Car Accident Lawyers has ranked the state third in the U.S. for distracted driving crashes, indicating a significant increase in this type of road hazard.

The DHS has strongly refuted Governor Pritzker's claims about federal immigration enforcement and the treatment of migrant children. Meanwhile, the 'Charge into Fire Safety' campaign has been launched to raise awareness about lithium-ion battery safety, following a sharp increase in battery-related fires across the U.S. Illinois, too, is grappling with a rise in distracted driving crashes, highlighting the need for enhanced road safety measures.
