The Forum of Christian Leaders (FOCL) is set to host a thought-provoking master class titled "C.S. Lewis and the longing for God: The Gospel and deep felt need," on Saturday, 7 December. This free event, led by Jerry Root, Professor of Evangelism and Leadership at Wheaton College and director of the Evangelism Initiative, will delve into the renowned author's articulation of the human longing for God through the lens of the Gospel and address deep spiritual needs.

The master class, scheduled from 15.00 to 18.30 London time, will be held on the Zoom platform, allowing participants to join from home or in groups from church settings. The session will include a time for questions and answers, offering an opportunity for in-depth discussion and engagement.

Jerry Root's work on C.S. Lewis generally emphasizes the use of narrative and imagination in communicating Christian truths, the practical applications of Lewis’s faith-sharing methods in evangelism, and reflecting on how the Gospel meets the spiritual longing within people’s hearts through Lewis’s perspective. The master class is expected to cover these themes, as well as exploring deep-felt needs and how to segue from the topic of longings to a presentation of the Gospel.

Understanding and recognizing these longings in our own lives will make us better at connecting the Gospel to the deep-felt needs in the hearts of all we meet, according to the FOCL. This aligns with Root’s known engagement on Lewis's legacy, particularly regarding evangelism and spiritual formation.

Registration for the master class is free and available for all. Those interested can join a growing community of individuals across Europe and beyond who are committed to the mission of Evangelical Focus. The master class is a 3-hour and a half-long event, and more details can be found on the Evangelical Focus website.

In addition to this master class, the FOCL also organizes the annual European Leadership Forum conference. Lewis's articulation of human longing for God, deep spiritual needs, and practical applications of faith-sharing methods.
