Cyber Systems Undergo Alteration in Last Update
**Cyber Switch-Up Competition 2024: Yorkshire Students Showcase Digital and Cyber Skills**
Last week, the YHROCU Cyber Switch-Up competition 2024 final was held, bringing together the top 1% of students from Yorkshire, according to Assistant Chief Constable Carl Galvin. The event, designed to promote digital literacy, cybersecurity skills, and interest in STEM careers among young people, took place at Sheffield Hallam University.
The finalists, aged between 11 and 18, demonstrated their potential to be top cyber talents. Among the participants was Alex Craig, an Upper Sixth Computer Science A-level student from Notre Dame, who won the Key Stage 5 competition.
The competition showcased the students' digital and cyber skills through a series of online challenges set by IBM, Rayethon, the Civil Aviation Authority, the British Army, and BAE Systems. The top 20 students in each age group were invited to Sheffield Hallam University for the final.
Richard Wallis, Detective Inspector of the YHROCU's Cyber Crime team, described the competition as a challenging and fun environment that promotes healthy cyber behaviors. The event is open to students in all secondary educational settings, possibly with support from local STEM or cybersecurity organizations.
Participation in the Cyber Switch-Up final provides students with hands-on experience and awareness of cybersecurity as a viable and dynamic career path. By targeting students in formative educational stages, the competition encourages early interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), particularly in cybersecurity.

Alex Craig was rewarded for his win with a trophy, tech prizes, and a 3D printer for the college, which was given to the Art department.
