Cooperative Efforts Lead to Victory
Alexis Dill, a 2020 graduate of Oberlin College, has made a name for herself in the world of sports communication and community relations. Currently serving as the Director of Public Relations and Community Relations for the Worcester Red Sox, the AAA affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, Dill is in her fourth season with the team.
Dill's journey to this executive position began during her time at Oberlin, where she was not only a two-time captain of the college's softball team but also an editor at The Oberlin Review, the student-led newspaper. These experiences honed her skills in sports and news editing, writing, and journalism, which have proven invaluable in her current role.
In her role with the Worcester Red Sox, Dill handles press releases, in-game scripts, ballpark entertainment, media coordination, and pre-game ceremonies. She has successfully coordinated significant team events such as the Worcester Red Sox Hall of Fame inductions. Dill also serves as a key public face and media liaison for the organization.
Dill's career path post-Oberlin has been marked by progressive responsibility and leadership in professional baseball communications and community relations. Her academic background, which includes an English major with a Rhetoric minor, has further helped hone her communication prowess.
Before joining the Worcester Red Sox, Dill enrolled in Emerson College's master of arts in public relations program after graduation. Her first professor at Emerson was Dr. Charles Steinberg, the president of the Worcester Red Sox, which led to her eventual employment with the team.
Dill's early life was influenced by her father, Brad Dill '86, a former Oberlin baseball team captain, and their shared love of baseball. This lifelong passion for the sport has been a driving force behind her pursuit of a career in sports communication.
Apart from her professional achievements, Dill is proud of her alma mater, Oberlin College, and the diverse community she was a part of during her time there. She also believes that women in leadership positions should model that it is possible to rise to the executive level in sports and have a family.
In 2019, Dill represented Oberlin on a panel of eight NCAA Division III athletes at the College Sports Communicators Convention. She also sat on an all-star panel discussing how to increase participation in baseball, following a screening of See Her, Be Her.
Dill's proudest accomplishment remains graduating from Oberlin College. She feels that her experiences at the college, including meeting people with diverse perspectives and backgrounds, have empowered her to take on speaking engagements and public appearances.
Dill leads a team of three full-time and five part-time employees in the Worcester Red Sox front office. Notably, this year, one of the inductees into the WooSox Hall of Fame is Janet Marie Smith, a renowned sports architect and urban planner.
Dill's journey from Oberlin College to the executive ranks of professional baseball is a testament to her dedication, skill, and passion for the sport. Her achievements serve as an inspiration to young athletes and journalists alike.
