Contribution to the Proposal for the Foundation of Base4NFDI

The National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) has taken a significant step forward with the election of new spokespersons for its sections this spring. The joint proposal for "Basic Services for the NFDI" (Base4NFDI), submitted on April 29 by all 19 NFDI consortia, is the culmination of cross-cutting topics discussions since the inception of NFDI in 2019.

Dr. Michael Diepenbroek from Gesellschaft für Biologische Daten e.V. (GFBio e.V.) has been elected as the spokesperson for the Section Common Infrastructures. Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Peter Pelz from the University of Darmstadt takes on the role for the Section Education and Training. The spokesperson for the Section Ethical, Legal & Social Aspects is Prof. Franziska Boehm from FIZ Karlsruhe, and Ulrich Sax from Georg-August-Universität Göttingen holds the position for this section as well.

For the Section (Meta)data, Terminologies, Provenance, Dr. our worker from TIB and Jun. Prof. Dr. Brigitte Mathiak from the University of Cologne have been elected as spokespersons. The spokesperson for the Section Common Infrastructures is also Prof. Dr. Sonja Schimmler from Fraunhofer FOKUS. The spokesperson for the Section Education and Training is also Prof. Dr. our worker from RWTH Aachen University, but the specific consortium memberships for the newly elected spokespersons were not specified in the provided text.

The election of these spokespersons marks a new chapter for the NFDI, as they will lead their respective sections in developing Base4NFDI, which aims to provide basic services for the NFDI. More than a dozen topics have emerged where NFDI-wide services seem plausible and desirable, enabling interoperability, achieving synergies and economies of scale, and ensuring cost-efficient development and operation.

Interested individuals can get in touch with the responsible spokespersons for joining one of the working groups in the sections. More information about the sections, their agenda, and working groups will be published on the NFDI website soon. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting development in the world of research data infrastructure.
