Competition for Worldskills Astana 2024 has drawn to a close
In the heart of Astana, from May 16 to 28, the WorldSkills Astana 2024 event took place, marking a significant milestone in the city's educational and professional landscape. Organised by the capital's education department, this event was the IXth city championship of the WorldSkills Astana 2024 competition.
Over 15 college platforms in Astana played host to this 10-day event, which attracted over 4,000 guests, including social partners, employers, business leaders, public funds, schoolchildren, and representatives of the parental community. The event saw over 350 participants competing for the title of best in various professions.
WorldSkills Astana 2024 offered a wide range of professional competencies, including bricklaying, dry construction and plastering, welding technologies, painting and decorative work, tile laying, carpentry, cooking and confectionery, baking, restaurant service, hotel reception, furniture production, car repair and maintenance, IT solutions for business, 3D modeling of computer games, mobile photography, internet marketing, floristry, and many others.
The event also highlighted competitions for students with disabilities, such as Abilympics, Deafskills, and Jasskills, further emphasising the inclusivity and diversity of the competition.
The winners of the competition were awarded gold, silver, bronze medals, and honorary medals, as well as valuable gifts from the "Atameken" chamber of entrepreneurs and social partners of the colleges. The event aimed to enhance the competitiveness of college graduates and their employment, successful career guidance for schoolchildren, and strengthen business ties with social partners and employers.
Kazakhstan joined the WorldSkills Association in 2014, becoming the 70th member. Since then, the country has seen growing involvement and achievements in WorldSkills events, often hosting city or national championships. By 2024, over 292 participants across 48 skills were registered for the WorldSkills Astana 2024 event.
The winners of WorldSkills Astana 2024 will now participate in the national championship WorldSkills Kazakhstan 2024 this fall, with the hope of representing Kazakhstan in future international competitions.
WorldSkills is an international movement present in over 80 countries, aiming to promote and raise the status of vocational professions.
