Community Invitation by Green Local Association: Knitting and Repairing Workshops During Summer for Sustainability

On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, the Weltveränderer e.V. association invites everyone to join an enlightening and interactive double-header event in Alt-Saarbrücken Summer Street, located at Alvenslebensstraße, 66117 Saarbrücken.

The events consist of two engaging components: the Repair Café Saarbrücken and the climate scarf knitting project.

The Repair Café is a mobile workshop where participants can bring broken items like electronics, clothes, or furniture to skilled volunteers who help fix them for free or at low cost. This community initiative, fostering sustainable consumer awareness, demonstrates practical alternatives to discarding broken goods, thus reducing environmental impact and encouraging a repair culture.

Meanwhile, the climate scarf knitting project involves creating a gradient of colors representing global warming over the last century. By participating, you'll not only contribute to an artistic endeavour but also help raise awareness about climate change.

Both events are free for everyone to attend, with a small donation to support the volunteers at the Repair Café being welcome. Participants can enjoy a cup of coffee and a piece of cake during the events, providing opportunities for conversation, exchange, and encounters among participants.

The Repair Café Saarbrücken is part of the efforts to promote sustainability in the city center and for all generations. It aims to strengthen community bonds by bringing together volunteers and visitors who share knowledge on repairing and caring for everyday objects. The finished climate scarves will be auctioned off in October in Saarbrücken, with the proceeds going to regional sustainability projects in Saarland.

For more information about the Repair Café Saarbrücken, visit the Repair Café Saarbrücken website. For more details about the climate scarf knitting project, visit the Climate Scarf website.

The local branch of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen Saarbrücken-Mitte is hosting these events, demonstrating their commitment to fostering a sustainable and aware community in Saarbrücken. For information about Green Saarbrücken-Middle, visit their website.

The Repair Café and climate scarf knitting project are organized by the Weltveränderer e.V. association, which has been at the forefront of promoting sustainability and community awareness in Saarbrücken.
