A Novel Learning Sanctuary for Underprivileged Kids: The Learning Forge

embedded in quaint Ober-Grafendorf, nestled within the district of St. Pölten, awe-inspiring Learning Forge will grace the horizons starting Fall 2025. This serene environment, conceived by the independent, non-profit association of the same moniker, promises to offer academic assistance to up to 25 elementary school students. Operating from Monday-Thursday, 12PM-4PM, their slogan "learning through play" encapsulates their educational philosophy.

The ideal beneficiaries are children hailing from financially disadvantaged homes, encountering linguistic barriers, or facing social hardships, whose educational paths are not optimally supported. Providing personalized assistance, from homework help to test prep, and the skill development of "learning to learn," all happening comfortably and securely, The Learning Forge strives to make a difference for those who might otherwise not receive such opportunities.

Behind this noble venture are Sabine Zechmeister and Daniela Wandl, two cherished childhood companions who reconnected by chance and decided to make a meaningful impact together. Zechmeister, a seasoned educator herself, envisioned The Learning Forge as a means to revitalize her ancestral home. Wandl, boasting over 20 years' experience in the cultural sector (including the vibrant Courtyard Stage in St. Pölten), opted to breathe new life into her hometown.

The duo, having relished the privilege of quality education, are aware of the plight faced by those whose families are unable to accompany them due to vagrancies. Zechmeister empathized, "We aim to intervene here and provide academic support along with activities that transcend the traditional school day."

Besides academic assistance, The Learning Forge promises inventive activities, such as workshops, outings, or creative exercises – contingent on time and resources. The project's web presence (www.lernmeisterei.at) is currently funded by private means - bolstered by the support of RZ (RZ Pellets and RZ Green Energy) and the Zechmeister family, whose focus is on promoting the youth of the community. Over the long haul, the initiators aspire to secure backing from regional supporters and the local economy.
