New Program at Park University: Civic Engagement Portfolio and Citizenship and Service Minor

Park University, founded in 1875, is introducing a new program that values community service and service to others – the Civic Engagement Portfolio program. This program is designed to provide students with the opportunity to earn a minor in citizenship and service in just 18 credit hours.

The program, which can be found on the University's website, is structured around core courses such as Introduction to Leadership (CA 233) and Leadership for Civic Engagement (CA 493). These courses aim to equip students with the skills necessary to relate practical experience to interdisciplinary and integrative thinking.

The program places a strong emphasis on civic engagement, with activities promoting the common good, welfare, and safety of local, national, and global communities. Students can earn three credit hours for every 120 hours of community service, up to a maximum of nine credit hours for 360 hours of community service and increased leadership responsibilities.

To demonstrate their commitment to service, students will provide documentation illustrating their ability to facilitate service in a wide variety of contexts, including communication, teamwork, and leadership. They will also showcase the value of service in a global society.

Students can use community service experiences from their junior year of high school and beyond, but they must be within five years prior to attending Park University. Students involved in community or service organizations, or those who have served on mission trips, are ideal candidates for this program.

Park University will start awarding college credit for civically engaged students from the Fall 2020 semester. For precise details on the program – such as requirements, credit hours awarded, and application process – it would be best to consult Park University’s official website or contact their academic or civic engagement office directly.

Interested students can reach out to Park University's Office of Admissions at onlineadmissions@our website or (816) 746-2530 for more information about the Civic Engagement Portfolio and the Citizenship and Service minor. The Citizenship and Service minor information can also be found on the University's website.
