Close acquaintances receive recognition with the Fortunino award in the United States
The International Friends of Festival Verdi (IFFV), a non-profit association based in the United States, has announced that the Fortunino Award will be presented to emerging young talents from the Festival this coming spring at the Lincoln Center in New York.
Founded in 2017, the IFFV's main goal is the promotion of new studies and research on Verdi's music. Their overseas patrons, who are personalities from finance, publishing, and business, aim to achieve this by using appropriate education and entertainment strategies in their promotional efforts.
The Fortunino Award, named after Verdi's second name, is a prize presented by the IFFV. This year, the award will be given to Plácido Domingo by the IFFV. The ceremony will be a grand affair, taking place at the Lincoln Center in New York.
The IFFV also supports other cultural events, such as the Parmesan festival and the Teatro Regio, but specific details about their involvement are not provided.
Last year, the IFFV's fund-raising efforts reached two million euros, a significant achievement for the organisation. The Social Return On Investment (SROI) for the 2024 edition of the Festival is 3.2, a record for the event.
The Fortunino Award is given to emerging talents from the Festival, and the recipients are selected based on their exceptional contributions to Verdi's music. The award serves as a testament to the IFFV's commitment to nurturing and promoting young artists.
The Festival has been crowned "Best Festival" at the International Opera Awards, a recognition of its dedication to the promotion and celebration of Verdi's music. With the presentation of the Fortunino Award, the IFFV continues to honour this tradition and support the next generation of Verdi interpreters.
