City Hall is granting honors to the most energetic elementary schools within our municipality

Last Thursday, September 4th, the city administration of Dormagen celebrated the conclusion of the "Which elementary school earns the most sports badges?" competition. The event, launched to foster and maintain the natural urge to move in children, saw a total of 2,300 students from Dormagen's elementary schools participating.

Anja Katharina Bezold, head of the Education, Culture, and Sports department, stated that the competition has shown sports not only bring joy but also strengthen the cohesion within the schools. A total of 913 sports badges in bronze, silver, or gold were achieved.

The Friedensschule Nievenheim emerged as the most successful school with a rate of around 70%. The Delhoven location was the second most successful school with about 63%, while the Straberg location was the third with approximately 60% of students earning sports badges.

Each winning school received €1,000 in prize money, while all other participating schools were awarded €800. The funds will be used to purchase and improve play and movement facilities on the schoolyards.

Anja Katharina Bezold, in her speech, emphasized the intention to create contrast and put movement at the center of children's lives in a time when screens often dictate their daily lives. She believes that sports instill values like fairness and team spirit, and enhance the cohesion within schools.

Mayor Erik Lierenfeld, in his speech, emphasized the importance of sports for all ages. He stated that the competition has impressively demonstrated the importance of sports, as they enhance quality of life, promote well-being, and instill values like fairness and team spirit, according to Lierenfeld.

Nadin Quest, the head of the department for education, sports, culture, and upbringing in the city administration of Marsberg, leads the office for school administration, sports, and culture. She expressed her satisfaction with the success of the competition and looked forward to its continuation in the future.

In conclusion, the "Which elementary school earns the most sports badges?" competition has proven to be a resounding success in Dormagen. It has not only encouraged physical activity among children but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and team spirit within the schools.
