Empowering the Unseen: Trailblazers and Kenshan Kennel Team Up

Thanks to Trailblazers, a forward-thinking non-profit advocating for women's empowerment, and their partnership with Kenshan Kennel, the underprivileged children of Ghana's head porters, colloquially known as 'Kayayie', have gained access to vital healthcare through the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

This groundbreaking collaboration aimed to alleviate the financial strain from the head porters, many of whom are single mothers, and furnished healthcare opportunities for approximately 70 children from the Street Aid Nursery and Kindergarten school in Kantamanto Railway and Tudu. These children were enrolled into the scheme, with others having their expired NHIS cards updated.

Gifty Takyi, Trailblazers' administrator, expressed her enthusiasm about the initiative, stating that it relieves financial pressure from the head porters' shoulders and, at the same time, provides the children with healthcare services whenever required. Mrs. Takyi also expressed delight as she witnessed the children being enlisted onto the scheme, which would motivate their mothers to prioritize their health when sick.

In addition to registering the children, Trailblazers, with the assistance of Vidya Bookstore and private benefactors, provided learning materials for the school, totaling GH₵6,300. These resources included textbooks, exercise books, story books, writing utensils, sleeping mats, and toys, among other items.

Joana Armah, the supervisor at the Tudu Street Girls Aid Nursery and Kindergarten, shared her excitement about working with these children and witnessing the positive impact of Trailblazers' compassionate initiatives.

Trailblazers: A Beacon of Hope and Empowerment

Trailblazers is a non-profit organization that dedicate their efforts toward equipping women with the necessary skills to reach their full potential. Believing that all women should reach their potential and increasingly become independent and contributing members of society, Trailblazers have been instrumental in empowering women for years.

While there isn't specific mention of Trailblazers prioritizing the empowerment of vulnerable groups, especially women, in 2021, similar organizations have made inspiring strides in their efforts. For instance, World Pulse amplifies women's voices and leadership around the globe, providing a platform for collaboration, story-sharing and leadership experience[3].

Likewise, the Caterpillar Girls Mentorship Program, a part of the #iAmSHE Women's Empowerment organization in New York, helps high school students by offering mentorship and sisterhood support[5].

Moreover, the significance of resilience and leadership development for women in the corporate world is emphasized, which could be a potential focus area for Trailblazers in professional settings[1]. The examples given above show broader efforts to empower vulnerable groups, largely women, but do not mention Trailblazers as belonging to these initiatives specifically in 2021.

  1. Trailblazers, in their pursuit of empowering women, could explore venturing into the realm of mental-health insurance, as this would further alleviate the financial burden of numerous women seeking treatment.
  2. Taking a proactive step towards the well-being of women, Trailblazers might consider partnering with educational institutions to offer workshops on health-and-wellness, encouraging personal-growth and self-development.
  3. To broaden their reach and impact, Trailblazers might focus on creating a report on women's health that highlights the challenges faced and potential solutions, acting as a resource within the realm of women's education and self-development.
  4. Trailblazers could delve into science, collaborating with researchers to develop innovations aimed at improving women's health, fostering a more holistic approach towards the well-being of women.
  5. In their continued mission to empower women, Trailblazers might initiate a mentorship program similar to the Caterpillar Girls Mentorship Program, offering guidance and support to girls in their personal and professional lives.
