Canadian Wine Library Opens to Study & Showcase Aging Potential
The Canadian Wine Library (CWL), a non-profit collection of top VQA and domestic wines, has opened its doors. Housed within Brock University's CCOVI cellar, it aims to study and showcase Canada's aging potential. Barb Tatarnic, CCOVI's Manager of Professional Studies and Outreach, confirms that Canadian wines indeed improve with age.
The CWL is a revolving collection, with access granted through applications on CCOVI's website. It's already off to a great start, thanks to its initial selection of fine wines. Tony Aspler, a renowned wine writer, praises the CWL as a treasured archive and an invaluable educational tool.
The library provides proper storage and opportunities for tastings. It's an invaluable resource for the industry, as agreed by Nicholas Gizuk, Head Winemaker at Niagara-on-the-Lake's Inniskillin winery. The CWL's goal is to determine how Canadian wines age and provide producers with feedback from scheduled tastings.
The CWL, with its impressive inventory, is set to contribute significantly to the understanding and appreciation of Canada's wine aging potential. Its impact on the industry is already being felt, with prominent figures like Tony Aspler and Nicholas Gizuk recognizing its value.
