Barnesville Honors 'Mr. Malta' in Hall of Honor
Barnesville Public Schools will induct Rudolfs 'Mr. Malta' into its Hall of Honor posthumously on October 3, 2023. The ceremony, set for 5 PM at Barnesville High School, celebrates the educator's impact on generations of students. Mr. Malta, a native of Latvia, taught various math subjects and German at the school.
Born in 1902, Mr. Malta began his teaching career in Latvia as a government-appointed physical education expert. After World War II, he and his family lived in displaced persons camps in western Germany for over five years. In the 1950s, they immigrated to North Dakota, though the specific family that sponsored them remains unknown.
At Barnesville High School, Mr. Malta taught geometry, trigonometry, consumer math, modern math, and German. He was well-respected and liked by his students, with nearly 20 letters supporting his Hall of Honor induction. Despite being too young for World War I and too old for World War II, Mr. Malta served in the German equivalent of the National Guard. He passed away in 1996, just shy of his 94th birthday. Former students and family members, including his daughter Aina Stoen, are invited to attend the ceremony.
Mr. Malta's induction into the Hall of Honor recognizes his significant contributions to Barnesville Public Schools. The ceremony on October 3, 2023, will honor his legacy and the impact he had on countless students' lives.
