Australia's Tech Sector Needs 1.5M Workers by 2025, Women Urged to Lead

Australia's tech sector is booming, with a significant demand for skilled workers. Currently, around 860,000 people are employed in tech jobs, but another 650,000 will be needed in the next seven years. Kate Pounder, CEO of the Technology Council of Australia, is calling for more ambitious policies to increase women's participation in this high-paid and secure industry.

The target areas to fill these jobs include 80,000 graduates, 70,000 skilled migrants, and 300,000 people through reskilling and career switching. Pounder urges the Federal Government to be more proactive in encouraging women into tech roles, particularly in leadership positions. Currently, only about a quarter of tech workers in Australia are female. Innovation and universities play a crucial role in training Australians for future tech jobs. Pounder's target audience for her call to action includes politicians, business leaders, industry professionals, women and minorities in tech, and educational institutions. She aims to create a broad awareness and support for gender equality in the tech sector.

With an estimated 1.5 million tech jobs needed in Australia by 2025, it's crucial to tap into the full potential of the workforce. Encouraging more women into tech roles, especially in leadership positions, can help fill this gap and drive innovation. Pounder's call for action highlights the importance of collaboration between various stakeholders to achieve this goal.
