Apply for the Youth Land Day 2024: Call for Applications Now!

The Youth Parliament 2024, a unique opportunity for young people to experience democracy firsthand, is now accepting applications from residents of Oberhausen, aged 16 to 20. Hosted by SPD MPs Sonja Bongers, Frederick Cordes, and Stefan Zimkeit, the event will take place in Düsseldorf from the 7th to the 9th of November 2024.

The Youth Parliament aims to provide a platform for young people to engage in discussions on current social, political, and environmental issues, much like previous youth parliaments held in cities across Germany. The event will simulate parliamentary procedures, with 195 young participants acting as MPs and shaping committees, faction meetings, and plenary sessions.

Applicants are required to submit a complete application, including a phone number, address, date of birth, gender identity, educational status, and a brief statement about why they want to participate in the Youth Parliament. All applications should be sent to [email protected] by Monday, 05 August 2024.

The decisions made by the Youth Parliament 2024 will be presented to the MPs of the 'real' Landtag, offering young delegates the opportunity to contribute to policy discussions and influence change in their community. In recent years, topics such as promoting political education and making apprenticeships more attractive have been debated in the Youth Parliament.

Frederick Cordes, a strong advocate for youth engagement in politics, believes that democracy thrives on young people who are committed and eager to contribute to the future. All costs, including accommodation, will be covered by the Landtag for the Youth Parliament 2024.

For more detailed information on previous topics discussed or decisions presented to the Landtag, it is recommended to consult the official websites of the North Rhine-Westphalia Landtag, the Düsseldorf city government, or the organizing youth parliament body directly. These platforms typically archive final reports and document notable resolutions presented.
