Alexandria Weekend: Art, Crime, Taxes & Edgar Allan Poe

Alexandria residents have received the second half of their real estate tax bills, with payments due by November 17. Meanwhile, the city's most-read news stories this week covered a Metro chase ending in death, a hidden bathroom camera, and homicide arrests. This weekend, Art on the Avenue returns to Del Ray with road closures, while fans of Edgar Allan Poe can enjoy a reenactment in Old Town.

Art on the Avenue, a popular annual event, is set to take over Mount Vernon Avenue in Del Ray this Saturday. The event features local art, music, and food, with road closures in place from 9 AM to 6 PM. Also on Saturday, residents can enjoy a French Themed Family Workout, Oktoberfest at Aslin Alexandria, and the return of the Edgar Allan Poe reenactment in Old Town.

Sunday brings a FREE Workout for Local Dads, the Four Mile Run Farmers & Artisans Market, and a Blessing of the Animals ceremony. The name of the officiant for the animal blessing ritual, scheduled for 4 PM at an unspecified location, was not provided. Additionally, HRP Group is hosting public tours of a former power plant site ahead of redevelopment approval, with details available on their website.

With a mix of cultural events, fitness activities, and community gatherings, Alexandria's weekend promises something for everyone. The city also reminds residents to pay their real estate taxes by the November 17 deadline. As Winston Churchill once said, 'Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts.'
