76-Year-Old Ute Schallenberg Honored With Federal Cross of Merit for Lifelong Community Work
Ute Schallenberg, a dedicated 76-year-old from Isselhorst, has been recognised for her tireless community work. The Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier awarded her the Federal Cross of Merit, honouring her extensive contributions to local culture and support for vulnerable families.
Ute's commitment spans decades. She served as a board member of the Heimatverein Isselhorst, organising cultural events and supporting the Evangelical Church. Her most significant role was as the initiator and long-standing chairperson of the church music support association for 25 years. Here, she successfully campaigned for a full-time cantor position, ensuring cost-neutral choir work and concerts. Her efforts have maintained the high quality of church music in the Gütersloh district.
Ute's dedication extends beyond her community. In 2020, she offered practical help to jesidic families who moved to Niehorst. She founded a small children's choir to integrate them into the local community.
Ute Schallenberg's award reflects her life's work, focused on music, culture, and humanity. She sees the honour as a community achievement, thanking her family and friends for supporting her ideas. Her husband, Wolfgang, has also contributed significantly, recording and sharing concerts from the Isselhorst church. Ute's commitment has undeniably enriched the lives of those around her.
